Brass and Copper Producer Now Running Business with AXIOM® Software

Information Access Streamlines Processes and Improves Efficiency

PMX Industries (PMX), a leading producer of copper and copper alloy strip in the United States, is now fully operational with the AXIOM® Enterprise Resource Management System from AXIS Computer Systems, Inc. (AXIS). AXIOM® is a comprehensive software system built around the unique operational requirements of the metals, wire and cable industries. AXIOM provides industry-specific support for all key aspects of the business, including sales, production, quality and financial management.

“AXIOM has increased the accuracy and timeliness of information throughout our organization,” states Tina Tendall, PMX ERP Project Leader. “It’s enabling us to streamline many processes. For instance, we’ve improved efficiency in the item and order change process by 67%! Using AXIOM to electronically record and modify item specifications for customer orders allows us to handle item specification changes in a matter of minutes and we can be assured that the operator has the information at their fingertips when it’s needed.”

PMX is using AXIOM to schedule and manage production throughout the company’s Cedar Rapids, Iowa mill where they melt, cast, and roll strips and coils of copper and copper alloy. In addition to production, PMX is using AXIOM to manage sales, shipping, purchasing and receiving, direct inventory, MRO inventory, and the usual integrated financial functions.

With annual capacity of approximately 250 million pounds per year, PMX Industries is the third-largest producer of copper and copper alloy strip in the United States. PMX Industries was the first “green-field” brass and copper rolling mill built in the U.S. in more than 50 years, and is owned by Poongsan Corporation, based in Seoul, South Korea. PMX products are used in applications such as electrical switches, electronic components, plumbing, jewelry, hardware, ammunition, and coinage. PMX is the primary supplier of alloys used by the U.S. Mint in production of nickels, dimes, quarters, fifty-cent and Golden Dollar coins.
