AXIS Computer Systems Adds Enhanced Slit Order Processing
to AXIOM® Enterprise Resource Management Software
Capabilities Aimed at Metals Service Centers
and Other Coil Processors
AXIS Computer Systems, Inc. (AXIS) announces immediate availability
of enhanced slit order processing functionality in the AXIOM®
Enterprise Resource Management System. The new capability
is designed to help metals service centers and other coil
processors optimize available inventory and individual coil
usage while streamlining setup and improving machine utilization.
AXIOM is a comprehensive operational and business management
software system designed around the unique requirements of
metals producers, processors, and service centers.
Developed in close cooperation with AXIS customers, AXIOM’s
new Slit Order Maintenance function provides an easy-to-use
point & click user interface that helps schedulers/applicators
quickly develop a slit pattern that satisfies multiple demands
while minimizing unnecessary knife setup and coil scrap. Calculated
yield information and a graphical representation of the coil
pattern are displayed with head, tail, and edge trim taken
into consideration. Coils are selected from inventory based
on any combination of attributes, width, gauge, grade, age,
etc. to maximize inventory usage. Processed material can be
designated for any number of specific sales order(s), work
order(s), and/or stock to make it easy to consolidate orders.
Customer defined tolerances are automatically checked during
pattern definition – i.e. slit coils must fall between
a customer’s defined PIW (Pounds per Inch of Width)
or weight ranges, eliminating expensive errors.
“The ability to consolidate several different customer
demands into one work order will help us significantly improve
productivity in our slitting operations,” states Matt
Jacobs, Manager of Business Processes at Gibraltar Steel.
“AXIOM’s enhanced slit order management function
is also very intuitive, so our operators are picking it up
pretty quickly.”
AXIOM’s new slit order processing function is designed
specifically to support the fast pace of operations typical
of service centers. Real-time visibility and allocation of
available inventory, automated calculations, and visual confirmation
all combine to reduce the time it takes to define and schedule
a slit order by up to 80% as compared to determining the pattern
manually. And once defined, the order is immediately available
to the shop floor for processing, further reducing overall
turn-around time.
