AXIS Announces Breakthrough Software
Solution for Metals Producers, Processors, and Service
Centers
Dynamic Order
Fulfillment™ Capability
within AXIOM® Enterprise Management System Dramatically
Simplifies Order Processing and Product Management
AXIS Computer Systems, Inc. (AXIS), the leading provider
of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software solutions
for the metals, wire and cable industries, today announced
an important new capability within its widely deployed AXIOM® Enterprise
Management System called Dynamic Order Fulfillment™.
Dynamic Order Fulfillment dramatically simplifies order processing
and product management activities for metals producers, processors,
and service centers by automatically creating quote, sales
order, and work order details based on the specific attributes
(e.g. grade, specification, size, shape, finishing, etc.)
of an ordered product without the need to maintain individual
product definitions for every possible product variation.
Available with the upcoming release of AXIOM version 5, Dynamic
Order Fulfillment will help metals producers, processors,
and service centers throughout the industry improve both
customer responsiveness and market agility.
“AXIOM Dynamic Order Fulfillment represents a real
break-through in packaged software solutions for the metals
industry,” stated Larry Espe, AXIS Vice President of
R&D. “Some metals companies have been unable to
take advantage of off-the-shelf ERP solutions because the
traditional approach to product and process definition has
been too cumbersome for the way they operate. AXIOM is the
first ERP package to offer this new approach and the companies
that have seen it are really excited about it.”
Dynamic Order Fulfillment extends the sales order processing
and production planning aspects of AXIOM’s already-robust
metals industry ERP solution with the ability to dynamically
generate product pricing, commercial descriptions, customer
instructions, and most importantly, work orders with detail
process routings, based on the attributes of an ordered product.
Data set-up and maintenance requirements are dramatically
reduced as compared to traditional approaches. An entire
range of products or processing capabilities can be defined
with a series of tables, templates, and rules that represent
a company’s capabilities and knowledge in a manner
that is natural and easy to understand, while at the same
time supporting the real-world sophistication of metals-related
processes.
AXIOM has developed Dynamic Order Fulfillment in close cooperation
with leading metals companies. The design was iteratively
refined based on review and feedback from a number of different
companies spanning the breadth of the metals industry from
primary producers, to various types of processors and service
centers.
Sharon Tube and Stripco are Pilot Sites
Sharon Tube, a leading manufacturer of welded pipe, seamless
pipe, and mechanical tubing, and Stripco Inc., an Indiana-based
steel coil and strip processor and service center, are two
of the AXIS pilot sites for Dynamic Order Fulfillment. Sharon
Tube already has portions of the new software in operation
in their hot mill area, with plans to deploy it in the mechanical
tube area and eventually throughout the facility. Donna Walters,
Sharon Tube’s Director of Information Services said: “We’re
very pleased with early results from AXIOM’s Dynamic
Order Fulfillment. Instead of creating thousands of individual
product routings, we were able to define a whole range of
product variations with just a few dynamic process routings
and associated tables." Stripco is in the process of
deploying AXIOM now and plans to utilize Dynamic Order Fulfillment
in early 2006. In addition to streamlining process routings,
Stripco will implement this feature to dynamically manage
throughput rates to maintain close control of on-time deliveries.
AXIOM version 5 which includes Dynamic Order Fulfillment
along with many other enhancements is available for shipment
as of February 1, 2006.
